What a fractional chief AI officer does
The job is judgement, not code. Someone has to decide which AI projects are worth doing, in what order, and with which supplier. In a large company that's a full-time executive. In a growing business, it's often nobody.
A fractional lead fills that gap for a set amount of time each month, and asks the same questions of every project:
- Is it worth funding, or should we drop it?
- Build it, buy it, or wait?
- What data will it see?
- Who owns it once it goes live?
- How will we know it worked?
Why not just hire someone?
You might, later. A full-time AI hire is a big salary for a role that may only need a day or so a week right now. A fractional arrangement gets the decisions right first, and you hire when the workload proves it.
If you do hire, we'll help you write the role and hand over the roadmap, so the new person starts with a plan instead of a blank page.
What it doesn't include
Fractional leadership is advice and oversight. Building assistants and automations is a separate job, quoted separately, whether we do it or someone else does.
We're not your lawyer or your accountant. Where a decision raises legal or tax questions, we'll say so and suggest you get proper advice.
